Gujarati New year Govardhanpuja & Chappan Bhog
Most of the times, Govardhan Puja is marked on the following day of Diwali (Next to Diwali day) and it is celebrated as the auspicious day of victory of Lord Krishna when Lord Sri Krishna has defeated God Indra and protected all the Braj Bhoomi and all its dwellers including people, cattle and all beings by lifting the Mount Govardhan with His little pinky finger and held it like an umbrella for 7 days and 7 nights from the torrential heavy rains sent by God Indra. Thus, by this wonderful Leela (Lord’s playful act for the benefit of all) Lord Krishna was given the name ‘Govinda’ by Kamdhenu (The celestial Cow from Heaven). That is one of the Lord’s most favorite names as he has earned it. Sponsorship: $51.
