Legends has it that, Kalidasa was born a simpleton and was tricked into marrying a princess who didn’t respect him. A crestfallen Kalidasa tried to end his life. Just then, goddess Saraswati appeared before him and asked him to take a dip in the river. Kalidasa did as he was told, and emerged from the water an intelligent, knowledgeable and cultured person, who went on to become a renowned poet of all times. Since then this day came to be auspicious for the worship of goddess Saraswati seeking that She may bestow the gift of knowledge to her devotees.
Aksharabhyasam is usually performed on a day according to the birth star of the children. However, on Vasanth Panchami it is considered highly auspicious to perform Aksharabhyasam for all children irrespective of their birth star. Children can participate and perform special Saamuhika Saraswati Puja, at the temple along with their parents, under the guidance of the priests. Please use the link to register your names.
